Once again, her face flushes. “Yeah, I appreciate being able to do that,” she quietly says.

“If y’all need anything, just text me,” Poseidon orders, looking at the two of us. “Otherwise, we’ll be up tomorrow with some decent food for breakfast instead of making y’all eat the hospital’s definition of food. Won’t stay all day, or anything like that, we’ll probably just pop in and out.”

“Appreciate it, Brother,” I manage to choke out.

With everyone gone, I look at Roane and smile. “Babe, you need to crawl up here with me.”

“I can’t do that, Ky!” she exclaims, scanning the room, acting as if monitors are going to start blaring for me not following their rules. “You’re hurt and there’s no way I want to add to it.”

“Gotten used to sleeping with you in my arms,” I confess. “Besides, you look like you’re about to drop where you sit.”

“I think the adrenaline is wearing off a bit,” she admits. “How about this, I’ll go slip into the clothes Lilli brought up for me, then pull the recliner chair over so it’s right next to you.”

“Make sure you get that,” I say, swiping my finger across her cheek where a streak of flour sits.

“I’ve had something on my face this whole time and nobody said anything?” she asks, indignation all over her face. “I would’ve said something.” Her mumbling is cute and charming.

I chuckle, because she’s showing her feisty side, and nearly pop a boner. “Don’t think they were worried about it, babe,” I gently tell her. “Go, get changed and I’ll call a nurse to move the chair for you. You don’t need to be lifting that on your own.”
